Education:

Ph. D., Atmospheric Sciences, Oregon State University, 1987

Research Interests:

Prof. Ruscher joined the FSU Department of Meteorology in 1988, after doing a postdoc in the College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences in numerical modeling of boundary layer flows at Oregon State University. He is a member of FSU’s Women in Mathematics, Science, and Engineering (WIMSE) Advisory Board, and a research associate of the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Institute and Karst Institute. His interdisciplinary research and outreach activities involve colleagues in Oceanography, Science Education and the new FSU-Teach program, Coastal and Marine Laboratory, and FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. During his tenure at FSU, he has concentrated on applications of boundary layer and coastal meteorology to applications from improved weather forecasting to energy utilization, and air pollution, climate change, and environmental health. He has also developed several new observational components of the Florida mesonet, an activity designed to improved direct measurement of weather conditions across Florida at small scales. He was a framer and writer of the new K-12 Next Generation Sunshine State Science Standards in 2007-2008, and is a member of the GLOBE International Advisory Committee and UCAR Unidata Policy Committee, and has served multiple state agencies in an advisory capacity on weather and climate issues.
