Education:

Ph.D. Mechanical Engineering, University of Pennsylvania, 1979.

Research Interests:

Dr. Chung’s research interests and activities for the past twenty five years have been in the general areas of fluid mechanics and heat transfer with a special emphsis on phase change heat transfer, multiphase flows, and laminar-turbulent transition and turbulence in heated flows. Specifically, he began scientific research in the area of condensation on spray droplets which is the focus of his doctoral dissertation. He has also worked in the following areas : Numerical and analytical fluid mechanics and heat transfer associated with droplets and bubbles, heat and mass transfer in dehydration and porous media, packed bed thermal storage system, particle and droplet dispersion in turbulent free shear flows, fluid mechanics and boiling heat transfer in micro-gravity, nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulic analysis, transport processes in manufacturing and materials processing for nano-cluster material. Currently he focuses on micro-scale fluid mechanics and heat transfer, cryogenic boiling and two-phase flow in reduced gravity and thermal-fluid transport associated with fuel cells
