Education:
Ph.D. Engineering Science, University of Tennessee, 1994
Research Interests:
•Active control of low speed air flows •Magnetogasdynamics for high speed flows •Electric propulsion for space exploration •Micro and nanoscale flow for biomedical, homeland safety and thermal protection problems •Interdisciplinary research for a broad range of multiscale problems •Computational fluid dynamics and heat transfer. •Numerical code development using finite element/ difference/ volume methods. •External and internal flow simulation for air vehicle and automotive HVAC. Dr. Roy specializes in the field of finite element algorithm development for practical applications relevant for industry, government and academia. The applications include plasma flow control for moderate to high speeds, electric propulsion, ionized gas dynamics, and micro/nanoscale flows. He has transitioned his multiscale ionized gas (MIG) flow code to the Wright Pat AFB where researchers integrated his results into their detailed simulations of wing stall and aircraft cavity flows. His research on small flows through micro and nanopores are designed to efficiently study realistic flow conditions, and was highlighted in the 2003 Aerospace America Yearend Review article. He has over hundred publications and seven patents (including five pending). His research is supported by grants from AFOSR, NASA, AFRL, Army CEWES and contracts from industrial giants like Boeing. He has been elected a Fellow of the American Society for Mechanical Engineers, a Fellow of the World Innovation Foundation and an Associate Fellow of American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Dr. Roy is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Fluids Engineering. He won several awards. He is also the founder and Director of the Computational Plasma Dynamics Laboratory and Test Facility at the University of Florida at Gainesville.
