Education:
Ph.D. Chemical Engineering, Stanford University, Stanford, CA, 1998
Research Interests:
Adsorption and reactions of gases on solid surfaces and heterogeneous catalysis. Development of transition metal catalysts for H2 production and partial oxidation reactions, elucidation of structure-reactivity relationships of metallic nanoclusters, and mechanisms of radical-surface reactions. Applications of reactive beam scattering techniques, scanning probe microscopies and surface electron spectroscopies to the study of surface chemical reactions. Dr. Weaver is the coordinator of the “surface science†area of the American Institute for Chemical Engineers. He is also a member of the American Institute for Chemical Engineers and the American Vacuum Society. He has published more than 25 articles on adsorption and reactions on solid surfaces and heterogeneous catalysis, including a review article on the adsorption of alkanes on metal surfaces. In addition, Dr. Weaver is frequently invited to serve as a panelist for catalysis and surface science research, including programs at the National Science Foundation on nanoscience and technology, sensors, catalysis and surface chemistry as well as a NASA workshop on “Materials for Advanced Space Propulsionâ€Â. Dr. Weaver also received the NSF CAREER award in 2003 for his work on the oxidation and reactivity of oxide-supported metal nanoclusters.
