Education:

Ph.D. Mechanical Engineering, University of Wisconsin, 2002

Research Interests:

Dr. Baik has been at the Florida Solar Energy Center since 2003 and involved in cryogenic engineering research area for 8 years. Dr. Baik's research activities include: , loss mechanisms analysis in cryogenic environment, design of highly efficient regenerators and cryogenic heat exchangers. After completing his master's in Mechanical Engineering in Republic of Korea in 1996, he worked on the development of hydrogen liquefaction, transportation and storage system for 3 years at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). His dissertation topic at the University of Wisconsin was on 'the Design Methods in the Active Valve Pulse Tube Refrigerator'. Since he joined FSEC, he has been performing intensive research on increasing density of liquid oxygen and hydrogen as cryogenic propellants for the space launch vehicle and experimental design and evaluation of ZBO (zero-boil-off) densified liquid hydrogen storage tanks. Dr. Baik has authored or co-authored more than 40 technical papers in cryogenic engineering area, and received the Best Technical Paper Award from The Korean Hydrogen Energy Society in 1998.
