Education:

Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, 2001

Research Interests:

Dr. Xinyu Huang holds a joint appointment with the Florida Solar Energy Center and the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor. Before joining UCF, he was a research faculty member at the Connecticut Global Fuel Cell Center, University of Connecticut. There, he had conducted research on the durability of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells, sealing of solid oxide fuel cells, fuel cell performance testing and diagnostics, etc., since 2002. He received his PhD in Engineering Mechanics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University in December, 2001. His research interests are in the mechanics and durability of functional and structural composite materials, including materials found in fuel cell devices, structural composites, and coatings. Current research subjects include polymer electrolyte membrane and membrane electrode assemblies in proton exchange membrane fuel cells, the focus in on the understanding of the degradation and failure mechanisms and accelerated testing and life projection methodologies.
