Education:

Ph.D. Mechanical Engineering, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL, 1999

Research Interests:

Dr Fletcher’s fuel cell-related research interests include the following: system-level performance analysis of PEM, PAFC, and Direct Methanol fuel cell engines and power plants, fuel processing, sub-system and component development, simulation model development, system integration studies, and control algorithm development. Dr. Fletcher has worked in the fuel cell area for the past 15 years. As Department Head of Systems Engineering at XCELLSiS (joint venture between Ford Motor Company, DaimlerChrysler, and Ballard Fuel Cells) he was chief design engineer for limited-production hydrogen-PEM fuel cell engines presently used by DaimlerChrysler (A-Class) and Ford Motor Company (Focus) as well as prototype hydrogen-PEM fuel cell engines utilized by most major automotive companies. In addition, he worked for UTC Fuel Cells as a systems engineer on the Next Generation Bus Project. As Director of Clean and Renewable Energy Laboratory at the University of North Florida he has participated in various government panels including the DOE “Go/NoGo” Panel for On-board Fuel Processing” and the National Academies of Science Panel to evaluate the “Benefits of Fuel Cell R&D”. He presently works with Georgetown University Advanced Vehicle Development as part of the DOT Fuel Cell Bus Program.
