Research Interests:

One of the major barriers to the overall economics of the biomass ethanol industry is the efficiency of microbial degradation of cellulosic materials derived sugar mixtures into biofuels and other useful chemicals. Therefore Dr. Louime is interested in - Microbial conversion of cellulosic wastes - Metabolic engineering of microorganisms to produce biofuels and other value added products - Genomic applications for the identification of genes involved in cellulose degradation, and - Production of alternative feedstock for bioenergy (biodiesel and ethanol) Microbial conversion of biomass is poised to make the most significant impact on BioEnergy in the short term. Dr. Louime is a Board Member of "Energies", the "International Journal for Molecular Sciences", and regular reviewer of "Current Microbiology" and "Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology"....etc...He is a member of the American Society of Microbiology, the American Society of Plant Biologists...etc...and has published numerous research papers on the topic of BioEnergy.
