Research Interests:

Dr. Kalu's research interests are centered on advanced materials for sustainability. The goal of achieving a sustainable energy rests on the success of engineered materials for efficient molecular transformation of molecules and the current research interests of Dr Kalu are therefore in the synthesis of materials for their performance applications in sustainable energy generation including synthesis and characterization of catalysts for the conversion of carbohydrates (sugar) to hydrocarbons, vegetable oil conversion to biodiesel, oxygen reduction (fuel cells), hydrogen generation from liquid fuels, and polymer-stabilized nanoparticles for biosensor and environmental applications. Dr. Kalu has been at FAMU-FSU College of Engineering since August 1995, following a 3-year industrial work experience with Monsanto Chemical Company. He teaches courses in chemical engineering computations, process analysis, mass and energy balances, electrochemical and environmental engineering. He has one patent and have published in electrochemical and chemical engineering and materials journals.
