Education:

Ph.D. Computer and Information Science, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA. 1986.

Research Interests:

Dynamic modeling visualization environments, visual programming languages, information visualization, semantic web and ontology frameworks for modeling and simulation, and algorithms for low-level data flow simulation support using graphical processing units (GPUs). Methods of combining computing and mathematics with the musical and visual arts.

Dr. Fishwick serves on ten editorial boards relating to modeling and simulation, including ACM Transactions on Modeling and Computer Simulation, and SCS Transactions on Modeling and Simulation. He is Fellow of the Society for Modeling and Simulation, has given 12 international keynote addresses, and has published over 150 technical publications including one authored textbook, and six edited volumes. He has just finished Aesthetic Computing for MIT Press, and is editor of the upcoming CRC Handbook on Dynamic System Modeling.

Fishwick’s interest in energy is in supporting visual environments where energy transfer is explicitly modeled. For example, in bond graphs and energy graphs used in ecology. Fishwick has recently published a Grand Challenges paper that outlines new research in integrating both phenomenological as well as abstract model elements within the same virtual space.
