Education:

PhD (Eng.Sc.D.), in Chemical Metallurgy from Columbia University

Research Interests:

Dr. Munroe served as the Chairman of the MME Department as well as the Associate Dean, Graduates Affairs of the College of Engineering and Computing. He has over 30 years of experience in environmental and process engineering, which includes working at Superfund sites, such as the New Bedford Harbor Wastewater Pilot Plant, the Army Arsenal at Watertown, MA and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, TN. His areas of specialization include: renewable energy technologies, biomass gasification, environmental management, biocompatibility of alloys used for implantable medical devices, superconducting nano-composites, fuel cells and micro-fuel cell power sources. He has over $4M dollars in research funding; 100 publications; advised over 150 graduate, undergraduate and high school students. Dr. Munroe received his BS in Chemistry and Physics, a M.Phil. in Mineral Engineering, Leeds University, UK, a MS degree in Metallurgical Engineering, University of British Columbia, Canada, and an Eng.Sc.D., Chemical Metallurgy from Columbia University, New York, USA.
