Education:
Ph.D. Electrical Engineering, The University of Toledo, OH, USA, 2004
Research Interests:
Sukumar Kamalasadan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering and Computer Technology at the University of West Florida. He received his B.Tech. degree in Electrical and Electronics engineering (1991) from the University of Calicut, India, M.Eng in Electrical Power Systems Management (1999) from the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (2004) from The University of Toledo, Toledo, Ohio.
Prior to joining UWF, Dr.Kamalasadan has held industrial positions for six years and has teaching and research experience for over three years. In the industry, he worked as a design and development engineer, executing projects for captive power plants/utilities before becoming an Assistant Manager for a refinery facility. As a researcher, initially he was involved in developing an approach on AI based voltage stability monitoring, control and assessment. Subsequently, he continued to develop intelligent control algorithms and formalized a new concept of supervisory loop based controller. Currently, he is working on a novel concept of intelligent agent, supervisory loop based adaptive controller for complex and Multimodal Dynamic systems control. His Research Interests are in Power and Energy Systems Devices, Modeling, Simulation and Control, Distributed energy system control and grid interface, Modeling, simulation and control of renewable energy and Distributed Energy Resources (DER), Intelligent and Adaptive Control, Computational Intelligence Approaches for energy system control, Real-time Embedded Systems, Power Systems Stability and Analysis, Control of other Dynamic systems
Dr. Kamalasadan has won several awards and scholarships including a prestegious NSF FACULTY EARLY CAREER AWARD. He is listed in who's who in the world, Who's who in America and who's who in science and engineering. He is also the recipient of Outstanding Teaching Award from the Graduate Student Association (2001- 2002) and from the College of Engineering (2002-2003) at the University of Toledo. Recently, he has also won travel awards (2004-05, 2005-06 & 2006-07) and Summer research award for his research activities at the University of West Florida. He is fully responsible for research analysis, student advising, development and implementation of several project related to power system voltage stability, intelligent control, simulation and analysis of energy devices, wide area monitoring and control, renewable energy based micro-grid and mega-grid interface and approaches in intelligent and adaptive control to robotics, avionics. These projects are supported by NSF and internal grants from the UWF.
