Research Interests:

Dr. Cocke's interests range from quantum mechanics and chaos theory to atmospheric motion and predictability on a wide range of time scales. Dr. Cocke developed the FSU nested regional spectral model, which has been used by a number of researchers for short term forecasting and regional climate studies. Dr. Cocke is also a primary developer of the FSU/COAPS Global Spectral Model, which has been used for seasonal prediction studies including potential predictability of Atlantic hurricane activity. Dr. Cocke is also a primary participant in the development of the Florida Public Hurricane Loss Model, which is used to estimate losses to residential properties in Florida due to hurricanes. The FPHLM is one of only five such models approved by the State of Florida for rate-making purposes, and is the only publicly funded model.
