Ph.D., Agronomy, University of Florida, 1985

Research Interests:

Dr. Sollenberger’s research interests include 1) quantifying dry matter yield components, ethanol yield, and soil carbon sequestration of different elephantgrass and energycane genotypes under several harvest schedules, 2) developing a laboratory screening assay to evaluate potential energy crops or best management practices for ethanol production, 3) assessing the use of alternative nitrogen sources including municipal biosolids, sewage sludge, and livestock wastes as means of reducing inputs of inorganic nitrogen fertilizers for biomass production and soil carbon sequestration, and 4) evaluating the potential of energy crops to remove excess nutrients or contaminates from land where biosolids or other organic wastes have been applied. Dr. Sollenberger has authored more than 90 refereed journal articles and 15 book chapters. He is a Fellow of the Crop Science Society of America and the American Society of Agronomy. He was named a University of Florida Research Foundation Professor in 2004.
