Education:

Ph. D., the University of Texas at Austin

Research Interests:

Wei’s research focuses on applying modern tools that combine laser spectroscopy and electron microscopy to study the localized optical properties of highly structured nanomaterials, including single nanoparticles and their assemblies. A fundamental understanding of the structure-dependent localized optical properties of nanostructures with sub-10 nm resolution leads to comprehensive knowledge of the surface plasmon-directed growth of novel anisotropic nanostructures, and design rules for the synthesis and fabrication of hybrid plasmonically-active nanostructures with optimized properties for solar energy harvesting, conversion and storage. All these projects are high impact and interdisciplinary in nature that combine inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, chemical engineering and materials science and engineering.
