Education:

Ph.D. ECE, University of South Carolina

Research Interests:

Dr. Foo is a tenured Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Florida A&M University and Florida State University. His research contributions have been in the areas of neural networks, ant colony systems, genetic algorithms, fuzzy logic, pattern recognition, random number generators, and field programmable gate array (FPGA) applications. Dr. Foo has authored or co-authored at least seventy (70) refereed technical papers and contributed to two book chapters. He has also graduated more than 27 graduate students. He is the Principal Investigator of at least seventeen (17) funded research projects with total funding of over 3 million dollars. His primary research sponsors include the National Security Agency, National Science Foundation, U. S. Air Force, Boeing Aircraft Company, and the Florida Department of Transportation. His most recent international engagements include an Invited Guest Speaker at the Video Detection Conference in Germany in 2002, where he presented a talk on real-time fire detection in aircraft dry bays and engine compartments. He also serves as a technical advisor to Airbus, the European aircraft manufacturer, in the area of fire detection in aircraft cargo bays. Besides the "Engineering Research Award" (2004) from the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, he also won the "Teaching Incentive Award" (1995), "Teacher of the Year" award (2001), and two "Best Paper" awards (2001 and 2004). Dr. Foo is a member of Eta Kappa Nu Electrical Engineering Honor Society (since 1982).
