Ph.D. Analytical Chemistry, Indiana University, Bloomington, 1981

Research Interests:

Dr. Cooper is Professor and Associate Chair of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Florida State University. He is also Director of Florida State's Terrestrial Waters Institute. Dr. Cooper's research focuses on the application of advanced analytical techniques in studies of the organic chemistry of natural waters and sediments. He is particularly interested in the composition, structure and biogeochemical reactivity of natural organic matter (NOM), including NOM containing nitrogen and phosphorus. His work is currently supported by the US Department of Agriculture, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Earth and Ocean Sciences Programs at the National Science Foundation. Dr. Cooper collaborates with scientists around the world, and currently has projects active in New Zealand, Panama, Brazil and Germany.
